- Pour melted butter over the mix, covering as much as you can.
- Bake 40 to 50 minutes until the top is golden and the edges bubble. Rest 15 minutes.
Notes
If dry pockets of mix remain, drizzle a spoon of extra butter. Vanilla ice cream is optional. Chocolate cake mix is a different dessert — keep this page on yellow mix and cherries.

Cherry, not peach
Peach dump cake already has a URL. Do not merge the fruits. This page stays cherry.
Substitutions
White cake mix works. A handful of chocolate chips is fine. Do not swap in cobbler topping — that is another recipe.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not stir the cake mix into the filling. Do not use cherry pie filling that is mostly gel with few cherries if you can help it.
Storage
Room temperature 1 day, refrigerated 4 days. Reheat squares in a 325°F oven.

FAQ
Do I mix the cake mix with eggs?
No. Sprinkle it dry. The butter and filling bake it.
Can I use fresh cherries?
Yes if you cook them with sugar first. Canned filling is the dump-cake method.
Why is some mix still powdery?
Drizzle a little more butter on those spots next time.
Is this cobbler?
No. Cobbler has a biscuit or batter topping you mix. This is dump cake.
