Peach Dump Cake

Peach dump cake in a glass baking dish with golden cake mix topping and bubbling peaches

This peach dump cake is the three-ingredient pan dessert: peaches, dry cake mix, melted butter. It is not peach cobbler (that has a biscuit topping) and it is not the strawberry cheesecake dump cake already on this site. If you want scoopable peaches with cake-mix crunch, this is the URL.

Description

Peach dump cake with canned peaches, yellow cake mix, and butter. From Alissa at Yummy Dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15 oz / 425g) cans sliced peaches in juice, undrained
  • 1 (15.25 oz / 432g) box yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the peaches with their juice into the dish. Stir in the vanilla and cinnamon if using. Spread into an even layer.
  3. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit. Do not stir.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix, covering as much of the dry mix as you can. Patch any dry islands with a spoon of butter.
  5. Bake 40 to 48 minutes until the top is golden and the edges bubble. Cool 15 minutes. Scoop, do not slice like layer cake.

Notes

Juice in the cans is the liquid the mix needs. Drained peaches make dry pockets. Serve with ice cream. Leftovers keep 3 days in the fridge.

Dump cake, not cobbler

Peach cobbler on this site uses a mixed biscuit dough. This dump cake uses boxed mix on fruit. Different method, different search. Keep both URLs.

Substitutions

White cake mix works. Fresh peaches (about 5 cups, tossed with 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water) can replace the cans. A handful of pecans on top is optional, not pecan pie cobbler.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not stir the cake mix into the fruit. Do not use peach pie filling only — it is too thick and sweet unless you cut it with juice. Do not expect clean slices; it is a scoop.

Storage

Refrigerate covered up to 3 days. Reheat scoops in the microwave or a 325°F oven until warm.

Nutrition (estimated)

FAQ

Do I drain the peaches?

No. The juice hydrates the cake mix. Drain only if you add extra liquid another way.

Can I use fresh peaches?

Yes. Slice about 5 cups and add 1/3 cup sugar plus 1/4 cup water so the mix has liquid.

Is this the same as peach cobbler?

No. Cobbler has a biscuit topping you mix. Dump cake uses dry cake mix and melted butter.

Why is there dry mix on top?

You missed spots with the butter. Drizzle those islands and bake 5 more minutes.
