Description

Magic cookie bars with graham crust, chocolate, coconut, and condensed milk. From Alissa at Yummy Dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (170g) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (170g) butterscotch chips or extra chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (85g) sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup (120g) chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 can (14 ounces / 396g) sweetened condensed milk
  • Pinch of kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment.
  2. Mix graham crumbs, melted butter, and salt. Press firmly into the pan.
  3. Sprinkle chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, and nuts in even layers.
  4. Pour condensed milk over the top as evenly as you can. Do not stir.
  5. Bake 22 to 28 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is set. Cool completely before cutting.

Notes

Cooling is not optional — warm bars crumble. All chocolate chips is fine if you skip butterscotch.

Bars, not brownies

Brownies are a cocoa batter. These are layered condensed-milk bars. Different URLs.

Substitutions

Skip nuts for a school-safe pan. White chocolate chips work in place of butterscotch.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not underbake until the center looks wet. Do not cut hot. Do not stir the layers.

Storage

Airtight at room temperature 4 days or refrigerate a week. Freeze 1 month.

Nutrition (estimated)

About 220 calories per bar if cut into 24. Estimate only, not a lab test.
